How Alex Grew His Pokemon Trading Business by 300% With Crosslist

Alex used Crosslist to expand his single-channel business into a multi-channel business — with great success. In 60 days, he was able to go from a hobbyist to a series reseller, and increase his sales by 300%!

An introduction to Alex

Alex grew up watching (and falling in love with) the Pokemon TV show as a kid. Every week, he would sit glued to his TV as the latest episode aired. It became his favorite cartoon, and, later, his most-played video game (after he got his first Nintendo).

Alex’s obsession with collecting Pokemon cards began when one of his friends came to school with a shiny new Pokemon card. “I remember feeling so envious,” says Alex. Immediately after school ended, Alex dragged his mom to the local toy store and bought his own pack of Pokemon cards.

After that, Alex and his friend began an unofficial version of the Pokemon trading game. For the next two and a half decades of his life, Alex kept growing his collection. He got display vaults and custom-made binders with sleeves to store his precious collection, which became the envy of several other collectors in the community.

However, when Alex hit the big three-oh, and work and relationships took up most of his time, he felt his interest in Pokemon waning. He also no longer had the time to participate in online Pokemon communities. So, he decided to create an eBay account and sell a few of his cards.

Alex

A stalemate

Alex’s eBay store was more of a hobby than a business. He would occasionally list a few cards and ship them off whenever a sale was made. He admits that he never put much thought into his store.

Until the Pokemon Go craze began, that is. After seeing the entire world go ga-ga over all things Pokemon, he realized that he was sitting on a goldmine. He had several coveted cards in his possession, and no interest in maintaining them anymore.

If he sold them, he would be able to make some serious cash. He needed to get back into the online selling game, except, this time, he would be serious about it.

But, where to begin? His eBay store barely had 20 listings, and most of them were still unsold. He would need a strategy to boost his shop.

After some research, he also decided to expand to another platform: Mercari. And, why not try selling locally to save on shipping costs as well? Alex decided to add Facebook Marketplace to the list of platforms he wanted to sell on.

The problem

With more research under his belt, Alex knew that the best way to boost his eBay listings was to delete the listings and recreate them. So, he started deleting his stale listings one by one and got started on creating fresh ones.

By the time he reached listing number 5 (which had taken him 1.5 hours), Alex was tired of the long and tedious process. And to think that he would have to do this two more times with Mercari and Facebook Marketplace? And thrice again every time he wanted to create a new listing or refresh a stale listing?

Unthinkable. The amount of time he would spend on the listing process would not be worth the money he made.

Not to mention the nightmare that the inventory management would be. He would have to constantly stay on top of all the platforms, and create and update spreadsheets to make sure he didn’t accidentally sell the same cards twice.

On the verge of giving up, he decided to try one last time and see if there were any tools that could help with the process. He found a cross listing tool that claimed to make the listing process easier. (No, it wasn’t Crosslist.)

Unfortunately for Alex, the tool made things even harder. The tool used form-filling software, which meant only a few listing details copied over. Alex still had to go over each copied listing, identify missing fields and fill them in, double-check errors, and submit the listing.

“I think I saved about 15 minutes from my original time when copying 5 listings, which wasn’t really that much of an improvement. I figured there had to be a better way,” said Alex.

So, back to the internet he went, searching for better tools, when he came across Crosslist’s article comparing 9 cross listing tools. After a quick read-through, Alex found that Crosslist solved many of the complaints he had, so he decided to try it.

The solution: Crosslist’s single listing form, bulk cross posting, delist and relist capabilities, and inventory management

Alex says that he was impressed with Crosslist’s features right from the get-go. “I spent two days trying out the tool, and could see how each feature was designed to make the listing process easier. If I hadn’t found Crosslist when I did, I may have given up on the whole thing entirely,” said Alex.

Bulk delisting and relisting

Before creating any new listings, Alex first wanted to refresh the remaining listings on eBay — the ones he hadn’t gotten around to deleting yet. After going through Crosslist’s guide on bulk delisting and relisting, he imported his eBay listings (which took less than three minutes) and went about delisting and relisting them.

“It was such an easy process,” says Alex. “I just had to select the listings and click the “delist/relist” button, and my job was basically done. And it only took a few minutes. I was both surprised and relieved that my problem finally had a real solution. I even went and double-checked the listings, and they were exact copies!”

Single, dynamic listing form

Once Alex’s #1 problem was solved, the next order of business was creating fresh listings for his remaining cards across all three platforms. Once again, Alex was happily surprised to see that, on Crosslist, he only had to create a single listing form. He could use the same form to post to all three marketplaces!

Alex’s only job was to create a listing and select all the three platforms he wanted to post on. Crosslist took care of the rest. He no longer had to fight with form-filling software or manually check for missing info and approve the listings. Crosslist automatically posted the listings for him.

“Creating 5 listings only took a maximum of 15 minutes!” he said, ecstatically. “I was saving hours’ worth of my time.”

Bulk cross posting

After delisting and relisting the existing listings on eBay, Alex decided to test out Crosslist’s bulk cross posting capabilities. He selected all the eBay listings and cross posted them to Mercari and Facebook Marketplace simultaneously.

“Once again, Crosslist blew me out of the park. The whole process happened so quickly. Within minutes, all of my eBay listings were live on Mercari and Facebook Marketplace. Each listing detail had transferred over perfectly, as well,” says Alex.

Inventory management

Crosslist’s dashboard helped Alex keep track of his listings easily. He could see where each listing was posted, filter through tags, and easily mark items as sold — all in the same place.

Armed with the right tool (Crosslist), Alex began dedicating more time to clearing out his Pokemon card inventory, quickly increasing his sales.

Pokemon Cards

Results

1. 300% more sales

What started as an occasional hobby now turned into a full-fledged side business. Within 60 days, he went from barely selling 5 cards a month to selling more than 15!

2. Massive time-saving

Despite the sudden spike in his sales, Alex wasn’t spending more than an hour or two each day on his Pokemon card business. Even that time was spent on marketing his store, finding new cards to buy and resell, and shipping out his sold items.

By putting the cross listing process on autopilot with Crosslist, Alex was able to focus his time on actually growing his business instead of being stuck doing repetitive tasks.

3. Online selling help

In a surprise turn of events (for us), Alex mentioned that the Crosslist blog helped him immensely in kicking off his real reselling journey. “I felt like a fish out of water; I didn’t know where to begin and how to make this process better and easier for myself. The tips on Crosslist’s blog were a real godsend,” he says.

Here are some parting words from Alex:

Crosslist transformed my approach to online selling. Given the sheer volume of my unlisted inventory, I was hesitant about actually giving this online reselling thing a go. Crosslist made the transition seamless. This tool is essential for anyone serious about multi-platform selling and scaling their online business.”
