Your Guide On How To Boost Items On Depop

Boost Items on Depop

Almost all online marketplaces have some way of letting you advertise your listings to potential users. Etsy has sponsored ads, while eBay and Mercari have promoted listings. As for Depop? It has boosted listings.

What do these boosted listings do? They put your product listings front and center for relevant keywords, making your items more discoverable for potential buyers — all for a small fee.

✅ Easy way to get more eyeballs on your products.
✅ Absolutely worth it!

Here’s the down-low on Depop’s boosted listings.

What are Boosted Listings on Depop?

Boosted Listings are Depop’s in-platform advertising method to help you get discovered by more buyers. When you boost a listing, Depop displays it prominently within the search results and on other parts of the website, such as the homepage. Think of it as someone lifting your product up in the air and showing it to the crowd.

A boosted listing may have a “boosted” tag attached to it when it shows up on the search results. Ultimately, though, more people view your products, which means you get more sales!

Any seller can boost their listings. But, if you’re new to Depop, you’ll only be able to boost your listings 28 days after you open your store.

Different ways of boosting your listings on Depop

You can either boost individual listings or your shop as a whole.

  • Boosted listings: Boosting a particular listing to give it a push. Best for promoting stale listings, discounted items, or seasonal pieces right before the season ends.
  • Boosted shop: Boosting your entire shop as a whole. Every new listing you create will automatically be boosted. Great for when you want to clear off all the remaining stock, or when you’re looking to phase out current designs and bring in new ones.

You can turn both of these features on and off whenever you want.

How much does it cost to boost your listings on Depop?

Here’s how the boosted listing fee works: you only pay an 8% fee when someone interacts with your boosted listing (by viewing, liking, or clicking on it) and then purchases the item from you within 28 days. If you don’t get any purchases, you won’t have to pay a fee at all!

We’ll explain in more detail.

Scenario 1: You boost a listing of a cashmere scarf. Someone clicks on the boosted listing and then buys the scarf from you. Here, you’ll have to pay the 8% fee.

Scenario 2: You boost a listing of a cashmere scarf. Someone views the boosted listing, but they aren’t in the market for a scarf, so they never make the purchase. Here, you won’t have to pay any fee.

What happens if someone buys your item without interacting with your boost listing? Say, a potential goes to your profile directly and makes a purchase, or sees your listing organically. In these cases, you won’t have to pay a boosted listing fee since the boosting wasn’t responsible for your sale.

Now, what about when someone purchases the item after you’ve stopped boosting? If the buyer had viewed the boosted listing anytime within the last 28 days, you’ll still have to pay the fee.

When in doubt, you can check if a sale was completed due to a boosted listing or not. Head to your Payments Tab and go to Latest Transactions. Select Receipts to check how each of your items were sold!

The 8% boosted listing fee is levied on top of your normal Depop sales and transaction fees.

How to boost and unboost your Depop listings

Ready to try this feature out? Here’s how to do it.

Boosting individual listings

  • Head to My Depop.
  • Click on the Bulk Actions button.
  • Select the Boost option and choose all the listings you want to boost.

Unboosting individual listings

It’s the same as boosting, but in reverse.

  • Head to My Depop.
  • Click on the Bulk Actions button.
  • Select the Unboost option and choose all the listings you want to unboost.

Boosting your Depop Shop

You can boost all of your current listings and automatically boost any future listings by following these steps:

  • Head to My Depop and click on Settings.
  • Scroll down to the Selling section and select Boost Shop.
  • Depop will give you a set of prompts to activate the Boost Shop option. Follow them to boost all of your current and future listings.

Unboosting your Depop Shop

  • Head to My Depop and click on Settings.
  • Scroll down to the Selling section and select Boost Shop.
  • Here, you’ll see two options:
  1. Unboost shop: This will stop any of your future listings from getting boosted. However, your current listings will still remain boosted.
  2. Unboost shop and listings: Not only will this stop any of your future listings from getting boosted, it will also unboost all of your currently boosted listings.

Alternatively, you can also unboost any individual listing. This will turn off Boost Shop on its own and also prevent any of your future listings from getting boosted.

Can you track the performance of your boosted listings?

That’s a big, fat yes! After all, what’s the point of advertising your products unless you can track how well they’re performing. Luckily, Depop understands this, so you get a few performance statistics about your boosted listings to ponder over.

  • Total views: The number of times your boosted listing has been viewed. You can use this to see if boosting your listings is giving them any traction.
  • Total clicks: The number of times your boosted listing has been clicked on. This gives you a good idea of whether people are viewing your listing and scrolling away or are actually interacting with it.
  • % increase in views from boosting: How do your organic views compare to boosted views? How much more traffic are you getting because of the boost? For example, if your listing got 100 organic views but 150 boosted views, this statistic will show +50%. If no percentage increase is shown, it means all of your views were organic.
  • % increase in clicks from boosting: Same as the previous statistic, but with clicks instead of views. It compares the number of organic clicks you got with the number of boosted clicks.

Using these performance statistics, you can get a pretty good idea of whether boosting your items on Depop is getting you any tangible results or not. If you see that it isn’t working as much as it could be, it might be a sign that you need to tweak a few things about your listings.

An important thing to keep in mind before trying Depop’s boosted listings: creating higher-quality listings with HD photos and listing videos (you can use Crosslist for this!) Make sure all the relevant info is included, and that you’ve priced your items right. You’ll be surprised at how big of a difference this can make!

Other ways of boosting your items on Depop

  • Make sure your listings are optimized for SEO. Use the relevant keywords (both in the title and in the descriptions), fill in your “about” section, add an FAQ section to help potential buyers with any doubts, and provide top-notch customer service. Don’t forget to include product related tags, too. This will help your listings rank higher among organic search results, increasing your visibility.
  • Take a development approach with an e-commerce app or a Depop bot that lets you send automatic messages/ offers to anybody who follows you or likes your listings.
  • Build backlinks to your Depop store by contributing to guest posts on some well-known websites. You could give insider knowledge about selling online, tell people what to look for when shopping online, or just write up a listicle on “Depop stores that you should absolutely check out!” Just share your expert knowledge and include a link back to your store. This way, anybody who reads the article will check out your store.
  • Maintain an active presence on social media and share links to your listings there. You can also collaborate with other sellers who sell items that go well together with yours and get more engagement that way.
